Registrations for Guyana’s Table Tennis Association (GTTA) Independence tournament has improved with two days left before the National Sports Commission-sponsored event serves off at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
After reporting a poor entry rate to what is usually one of the biggest calendar events on the association’s programme, National Table Tennis Coach, Linden Johnson was happy to report yesterday that entries have significantly improved.
“Yes registrations have stepped up this week. Up to this afternoon (yesterday afternoon), we had about 84 entries and that is likely to get better tomorrow (today). So tomorrow we will know for sure how many entries we have,” Johnson said.
The table tennis coach had indicated to this newspaper last week that “entries are not going as well as we would have liked but we’re certain that we will get over or close to 200 participants this year.”
Last year, they had 325 entries, and while that does not seem likely at the tournament this year, Johnson reiterated that a possible increase in the number of schools likely to play in the competition would also mark an achievement.
