30 to attend at Albion CC
The Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) will continue its coaching clinics for junior cricketers on Saturday at the Albion Community Centre Ground; this time around, 30 young batsmen will be the beneficiaries.
Conducting the clinic is BCB Senior Cricket Coach Winston Smith with assistance from fellow coach Julian Moore and several senior national batsmen.
Chairman of the BCB Special Events Committee Hilbert Foster disclosed that the batting clinic would be the fourth and final one to be organised after the Board had successfully completed clinics for wicketkeepers, fast bowlers and spinners.
The Junior Selection Committee – Leslie Solomon, Patrick Lewis, Moses Samlall and Randolph Latcha – would meet with Coach Smith after the completion of the batting clinic to name a 32 man squad that would be part of a Junior Elite Programme, expected to be launched soon.
The BCB has already launched a Senior Elite Training Programme and the two training programmes would be used to properly prepare the County’s most promising players for Inter-County tournaments.
The 32-man junior squad would also be part of the 2nd Annual BCB/Bank of Nova Scotia Cricket Academy that would be held in late July at the Port Mourant Cricket Ground.
The one-week academy would be administered by 5 Coaches with the main aim of identifying and correcting technical faults and developing their individual talents. A one day clinic for 20 junior captains would also be held during this month.
Meanwhile the Senior Elite Training Programme continued on Sunday last at the Albion Community Centre Ground with 32 players training under coaches Adrian Amsterdam, Winston Smith and Julian Moore.
Several returning players from Trinidad reported to the programme for the first time including Jonathan Foo, Rajiv Ivan and Rajendra Latchana.
Branch Manager of Republic Bank, New Amsterdam, Mr. Imran Sacoor spoke to the cricketers on the “The importance of discipline and team unity” before the coaches took them through a highly intense three hour physical workout session.
Human Resources Manager of the Albion Estate and former BCB Assistant Secretary Mr. Vemen Walter would deliver the next lecture this Sunday on the Topic “The Role of a Sports Ambassador and the Importance on being a Positive Role Model”.
