Dear Editor,
Today, all too frequently, we learn of the very sad plight of many retirees who held respectable designations (and still have working life left in them), being confronted with numerous cul-de-sacs when seeking re-employment at various private agencies.
This trend continues to haunt our former managers, supervisors, law enforcement officers, etc., to the point where some have become reclusive, terrified by the thought that they are no longer useful to society.
History just keeps repeating itself. Many pre-retirees have failed miserably in taking cognizance of the aforementioned development and are prone to falling into the said mire – of oblivion. In this light, one should have the foresight to know that when the reign of power has been relinquished, the flow of the people’s tide automatically and systematically diminishes into a drought.
This unpleasant scenario does not at all times, truly reflect the laws of karma, nor seemingly the balanced rhythm of the world, but being out of the public domain sometimes creates many spates of sad manifestations.
It is a known fact, that those who are blessed in attaining senior positions in their places of employment, whilst therein, will always be treated with much respect and courtesies. However, as one retires and goes into civilian life, such amenities automatically disappear leaving these persons on a platform of barren soil.
Therefore, those who are presently in the ascendancy, so to speak, should be very wise and productive.
They should not be like shallow men, where the fish of a little thought causes much commotion, but should possess an oceanic mind where the whales of inspiration make hardly a ripple.
Many today are not finding jobs on par with their retired status, and to add salt to the already ruptured spleen, their ‘friends’, mostly the wealthy ones, have already deserted them. They can be seen walking aimlessly on our roadways, poorly clad while others tramp between the numerous alcoholic outlets, ambushing both friend and foe alike.
A number of them who have skillfully gained employment are subsequently forced to leave due to the abusive nature of their employers.
It is therefore greatly expected that when one gives his entire life for a cause, particularly in the public sector, the entity from which they came, should be tasked with the responsibilities of creating suitable avenues for the future.
In so doing, big business agencies will be inclined to show respect for such applicants.
Young persons with big dreams should still, however, secure themselves for the future, for the time will come when their big friends will forthwith recognize that they can no longer play any developmental role and surely, very surely, the door will be closed hitting then on the way out.
