Suspected murder rocks Amerindian Hostel occupants
The Amerindian hostel where the woman died.
Police and officials from the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs are investigating the death of Evelyn Daniels, 63, of Mathews Ridge North West District,. The woman died at the Amerindian Hostel, Princes Street, Georgetown yesterday.
Eyewitnesses disclosed that the woman was fetched out in a chair with her throat slashed and was placed on a tarpaulin in the back of a green Pickup GMM 2896. “If you see blood; the blood too much. Somebody kill she.”
At the Georgetown Public Hospital the woman was pronounced dead.
At the scene yesterday the security guard locked the gates and allowed no one inside of the hostel, except for the law enforcement officers.
According to a source that requested anonymity, within the hostel, Evelyn’s husband was charged with molesting a schoolgirl, and is presently in prison, while she was set to return to Mathews Ridge Wednesday.
“That lady has a granddaughter, and when the police come they told her to disown the woman and to say she is not her grandmother. Why did they do that?”
It was revealed that the woman was in the administrator, Vergil Ferreira’s office ten minutes before persons knew her throat was slashed. “ Ten minutes after she hear somebody hollering, I see somebody come down and hide the knife, I see dat!.”
The source said that she saw an Amerindian boy wrap a long knife in a piece of paper and hid it in the hostel compound. “Why they hide the knife? They claiming this woman cut she throat. Anybody see she cut she throat? So then why they hide the knife?”
It was further stated by the source that the police should speak to the dead woman’s granddaughter. “They are hiding the lady granddaughter. She (Evelyn) was talking with another boy in there in her own language and they don’t want the boy to reveal it to the police. They are hiding him too.”
At the Amerindian Hostel, an official stated that contact should be made with the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs, since they have nothing to say. However, persons at the Ministry said that the Permanent Secretary was in a meeting.
The police, in a statement, said they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Evelyn Daniels, 63 years of Matthews’ Ridge, NWD, which occurred at about 12:30h yesterday at the Amerindian Hostel.
According to the statement, Investigations revealed that Evelyn Daniels reportedly came out to Georgetown on May 26, 2010, to seek medical attention and was residing at the Hostel. About 12:30h yesterday another resident of the Hostel saw her cutting her throat with a knife and raised an alarm, the police said.
Daniels was taken to the GPHC where she was pronounced Dead on Arrival, it added.
