The Ethnic Relations Commission (ERC) has contracted Mr. Lawrence Lachmansingh, a consultant, who will assess the commission’s performance, and effectiveness to date.
The ERC will be hosting its Annual Regional Meetings and Strategic Assessment Process with key stakeholders today to Friday June 4, 2010.
According to chairman of the ERC, Bishop Juan Edghill, with the 2011 General Elections approaching and the potential for Local Government Elections later this year, the ERC is seeking to assess its performance and impact with the strategic objective of developing new plans.
He disclosed these plans would cover the period 2010-2015 which would strengthen the Commission’s capacity to address issues facing the nation as it pertains to the issue of ethnic relations, which would entail a summary of the ERC work since its inception is enclosed.
It was revealed that the strategic assessment is being implemented with the support of UNDP’s Enhanced Public Trust, Security and Inclusion (EPTSI) Project. The objectives of the assessment include: conducting a strategic review of the ERC by reviewing documentation and meeting with stakeholders, facilitating a retreat of the ERC to discuss findings, validating findings with stakeholders and producing a final report of the process.
Mr. Lawrence Lachmansingh has been a consultant for 13 years, and has worked with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), National Democratic Institute (NDI) and the Electoral Assistance Bureau (EAB).
He is an MBA graduate with a diverse local and international project management experience, with expertise in the promotion of governance and peace, and specialisation in the thematic areas of elections, civil society, and conflict transformation.
