… parents receive reports of his death but seek confirmation
Seventeen-year-old Mikey Moonadai, of Friendship Squatting Area, East Bank Demerara, has been reported missing since New Year’s Day, and his parents have received reports of his alleged death by malaria. However, investigations by his parents and the Police have not confirmed this report.
Mikey’s mother, Indra Persaud, told Kaieteur News that last October, the day after Diwali, her son left home to go and work at a Mahdia location with a man known as Marcus. Mikey would often call home, sometimes two or three times a week. They learnt that he left the job with Marcus and went to work with someone called “Dougla.”
On New Year’s Day, Mikey called home and told his Father that he would be coming home for Easter. He never arrived.
Indra said she became worried about her son and called Dougla who told her that Mikey had left the job with him and gone to work at another location which he did not know. Indra then called Marcus, Mikey’s first employer, who told her that he would make contact with Mikey and that she should call him back on his cell phone. When she tried to do so, Marcus’s phone was turned off and she had no news after that.
Last Friday the family received information that Mikey had died in the backdam and was buried on Tuesday. There was no information on who had buried him or where.
Indra tried desperately to get more information about her son. She called the Mahdia Hospital, no one by that name had been registered for malaria or had died from it, the same information came from the Mahdia Health Centre and the Mahdia Police Station.
A visit to Police Headquarters at Eve Leary also yielded the same results.
However, one policeman at Mahdia, did indicate that her was son was known to them as “Bin Laden” but that he had not been seen for some time.
The person who had given the information to the family was living in Indra’s community and he had just come out of the ‘bush’.
According to Indra, the man had heard about her son’s death while he was at Mahdia and did not tell them as soon as he came back, since he assumed that they had already received the information. Indra said that the man did not pay much attention to the news he had gotten and was unable to give them any other information about her son’s alleged death.
The parents and grandmother of seventeen-year-old Mikey Moonadai, aka Bin Laden, are appealing to the Mahdia authorities to try their best to locate him. If they find him alive, let him know his parents want him back at home.
If he is dead, however, they would want his body to be removed from the ‘bush’ and brought home to them for a proper burial.
Mikey’s family is asking anybody with information about the teenager to contact them on the following numbers, or to call the nearest police station: 6835043, 6445849, 2304368, and 6726722.
