GCB President allowing Police to do their job
The Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) torn into two factions due to an escalating and bitter internal power-struggle yesterday took Journalists on a tour of their Indoor Cricket Facility and Hostel at LBI on the East Coast of Demerara.
This was in response to an article in yesterday’s Stabroek News in which allegations of corruption were aimed at GCB officials including one which stated that a wall on the new cricket facility had a huge crack. A photo of the alleged crack was also published by Stabroek News.
Singh, the GCB Head since 1991, said the tour was to prove that the picture which the newspaper identified as a large crack was in fact a termite trail.
“The picture was an old one as the hostel was treated some time ago and minor damage to the molding was caused by the pest control company as they traced the termites,” a GCB official informed yesterday.
The GCB was represented by Singh, Vice-President Fizul Bacchus and Secretary Anand Sanasie while GCB’s Video Analyst Robin Singh and Attorney-at-Law Sanjeeve Datadin, who will be representing various parties involved in the allegations of misconduct, were also present. The GCB informed that yesterday’s briefing concerned the article in yesterday’s Stabroek News which alleged the LBI hostel was falling apart. The GCB President asked for a correction/retraction of yesterday’s article and its unsubstantiated allegations.
Mr Singh, a Director on the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) informed Journalists he would deal with the other allegations contained by the various newspapers in a timely manner since he was allowing the Guyana Police Force to do their job.
It has been alleged by GCB Assistant Treasurer Pretipaul Jaigobin that some GCB executives might have played a role in his acid attack last Tuesday night following his questioning regarding several issues surrounding the financial position of the GCB.
Datadin indicated he represents various parties who have been affected by the swirl of allegations and these too will be dealt with shortly.
