Against the backdrop their perceived absence of “affordable” nutritional supplements for local athletes and fitness enthusiasts, Rite Vitamins officially arrived in Guyana yesterday following a ribbon cutting ceremony at 6A Alexander Street, Kitty.
Founder and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the New York-based company, Joe Knights was accompanied by Guyana and West Indies batsman, Leon Johnson, Caribbean Under-15 Squash Champion, Mary Fung-A-Fat and national rugby player, Nicole Nero when the ribbon was cut to mark the opening of the nutrition outlet in Guyana.
Knights told the media afterwards that the idea came as a result of his visit to Guyana last December when he could not find stores with the necessary nutritional supplements for those who have a keen interest in fitness.
He said that prompted him to explore the possibilities of bringing his New York-based company to Guyana after he realised that a lot of the local population have an interest in working out and keeping high levels of fitness.
“I guarantee you that almost anyone will be able to come in and afford our vitamins. We are a retail and manufacturing company of vitamins and supplements in New York,” the Rite Vitamins CFO indicated briefly outside the outlet.
Knights said that plans are underway to decentralise the outlet from Georgetown. Asked how soon that expansion drive is expected to take shape, Knights was quick to point out that “a lot of the information (on that) we don’t want to disclose right now”.
He, however, stated that there will be some collaborative effort with pharmacies in Berbice and Linden to promote the products. In addition, there will be fitness awareness programmes based on vitamins quality and affordability.
In that regard, some local athletes, especially those still in high school will be engaged for endorsement packages. Knights informed that one such vitamin, Maxi Muscle, is endorsed by English fast bowler, Stuart Broad.
He said that marketing initiatives such as that will be used to get their products into the public domain.
The company has an array of products that they will be offering, which includes organic teas, powder for daily juices, diets for weight loss apart from the vitamins and supplements.
Knights revealed that one of the challenges he faced was how to make the products more affordable while maintaining their quality.
He said that the company plans to play an active role in the development of local athletes and fitness enthusiasts.
