An inmate who was found with over 258 grams of marijuana at the New Amsterdam Prison has been taken into custody as the authorities try to find out how he had become of such a large amount of the illicit substance.
According to information, at around 15:30 hrs on Wednesday, prison officials were in the process of doing their routine checks when they saw the prisoner, who was in the yard at the time, acting in a suspicious manner.
They immediately challenged him as to his strange behaviour and discovered that he had on his person, leaves, seeds and stems of the prohibited plant. He was detained and the police were called in.
Upon being quizzed further, the man , 24-year-old Ray Anthony, who is a convicted prisoner and who hails from Angoy’s Avenue, admitted ownership of the substance.
He is being held pending further charges.
He was previously incarcerated for being in possession of smoking utensils.
