Five Guyanese finish in top 10
Guyana’s Ransford Goodluck is the new King of Caribbean shooting. The Guyanese veteran marksman fired his way to victory with wins at the 300 yard range with 50 points and 4 V-Bulls at 600yds (50-8) both being possibles; tied for 2nd at 900 (34-3) with Justin Lall of Trinidad and Tobago and was 4th at 1000 yards which was won by a Barbadian female shooter Sharon Marshall who shot a possible 50-2. Marshall also took the top female spot overall.
Goodluck’s winning overall score was 437-33. Dylan Fields placed 4th, Mahendra Persaud 6th, Richard ‘Dickie’ Fields and John Fraser 9th and 10th respectively. Full details of the final day action will be in tomorrow’s edition.
However, competition in the individual shoot at the 2010 West Indies Fullbore Shooting championships had heated up on the penultimate day (Wednesday) with Trinidad and Tobago’s Justin Lall overtaking day one leader, Guyanese Ransford Goodluck by a single point going into the final day, yesterday.
The Paragon Ranges located in Christ Church, Barbados is where all the action is taking place and competition has been keen among the best shooters in the Caribbean.
The second day only saw competition at the 500 and 900 yards ranges with Lall placing 3rd and 2nd respectively to Goodluck and fellow Trinidadian Norris Gomez. His combined scores gave him enough points to overtake Goodluck but the veteran from Guyana who has been in vintage form over the past few months will not give in easily and an enthralling final day which will see the shooters competing at four ranges is anticipated.
Goodluck won the 500 range with Persaud 3rd (35-3) and Fraser 8th (34-2). The 900 saw Trinidad and Tobago’s Norris Gomez (73-9) and Justin Lall (72-7) placing 1st and 2nd with the Guyanese taking the next five positions (Goodluck, Stuart, Dylan Fields, Persaud and Slowe; Blair was 10th.
At the end of the first day which saw competition at the 300, 500 and 600 yards ranges, Goodluck’ s aggregate was 153-9 to Lall’s 152-10.
Leading the O’Class (Juniors) was Antigua and Barbuda’s Desroy Maile with an overall total of 245-17, he 8th in the overall placing while the top female shooter after day 2 is Barbadian Sharon Marshall (244-10) who was placed 12th overall.
Today (Friday) is a rest day with the team championships set to begin tomorrow (Saturday) with the long range (900 & 1000 yards) and Sunday at the short range (300, 500 & 600 yards). Defending champions Guyana will be aiming to retain both titles.
