Dear Editor,
In Sunday’s edition of the Stabroek Sports, Veteran Cricket Journalist Tony Cosier mention in an article headlined “A different call for Shillingford” that if the Dominican off spinner is selected for the South Africa Test series he will join compatriots; Grayson Shillingford (deceased), Irvine Shillingford and Norbert Phillip all who had the honour of wearing the Maroon cap for the region at the Test level.
But Mr. Cosier made no mention of Adam Sanford who debuted for the West Indies at the Test level against India in the Caribbean in 2001. Sanford played one match for the Windward Islands against Guyana in Grenada 1997 then migrated from his native Dominica to Antigua & Barbuda and represented the Leeward Islands at the regional first class level.
So if Shane Shillingford is selected against the Proteas he will be the fifth Dominican to wear the prestigious Maroon Cap.
