Even as police continue to probe the murder of businessman Terry Bacchus, his reputed wife of seven years ,Sharon Ramkellawan, is urging the police to dig deep to quickly apprehend the killer of her husband.
The woman who was living with the businessman at the time of his death has a five-year-old son, Terrence Bacchus Jr.
Speaking to this newspaper yesterday, Ramkellawan, 30, said that she is devastated by the brutal murder of her husband since she was not directly associated with his business and now has the hard task of raising their son on her own.
Terry Bacchus was shot and killed last Saturday night on Water Street, shortly after leaving one of his business places.
Nothing was taken from his person leaving investigators baffled as to the motive for his murder. A post mortem examination revealed that a single bullet penetrated his heart.
There are reports that his killer fled in a white car shortly after the incident.
Ramkellawan said that on Saturday night, she was at the couple’s Anna Catherina home when she received a telephone call informing her that Bacchus had been shot.
Since she had heard from him a few minutes before the incident, Ramkellawan refused to believe what she was told, so she contacted one of Bacchus’s brothers who confirmed that he was indeed shot and killed.
She said that she immediately left home and went to the Georgetown Public Hospital where she saw her husband’s body.
Ramkellawan’s concern is that since her husband’s death, family members have halted all of his businesses including the Double D Enterprise at Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara, and she fears that she may be left out of all transactions regarding the assets that Bacchus left behind.
“Everything close down. Everybody take away the keys to the bonds and the jeep and so. If I want a vehicle fuh use, I can’t get it,” Ramkellawan told this newspaper.
However, she pointed out that her husband’s relative have been very sympathetic towards her and she hopes that she can continue to live a good life with her son after being with Bacchus for seven years.
She said that apart from the house that she shared with Bacchus up to the time of his death and a small amount of cash that he had given her, she is at her wits’ end to ascertain how life will pan out in the coming days.
Ramkellawan said that she had witnessed her husband’s post mortem and had signed as his next of kin, a move that caused some amount of friction among members of the businessman’s family.
