Police have charged an unlicensed driver who was allegedly involved in last week’s bizarre fatal accident in Diamond Housing Scheme. But they are still trying to ascertain whether he actually caused the death of 53-year-old pedestrian Rudolph Latchman
The driver, 20-year-old Khemraj Gobin of Nineteenth Street, Diamond Housing Scheme, was charged last Friday with breach of insurance and for driving a vehicle without a licence.
Meanwhile, police are seeking legal advice to ascertain if he should also be charged with causing Latchman’s death.
According to the police, Gobin was driving along the access road on Friday night when he felt the vehicle go over a bump. He then swerved and ended up in a trench.
There has been speculation that Gobin ran over Latchman after another vehicle had already struck the victim. Latchman was said to have been a heavy drinker and reportedly had no fixed place of abode.
