– Commander lauds residents for arrest
Dalton Prince, the miner who was slain at Ikawan, Cuyuni on Sunday, was clubbed to death as he slept in a hammock, police said yesterday.
The motive appeared to be revenge for a recent assault on the 27-year-old suspect by the 40-year-old Prince. Both men had worked at a Brazilian mining camp.
According to reports, Prince was sleeping in a hammock on Sunday night when the other miner struck him with a piece of wood.
The assailant was apprehended at the scene and is at present detained at the Bartica Police Station.
Yesterday, Commander of E and F Division, Assistant Commissioner David Ramnarine, lauded the public spirited citizens who apprehended the suspect.
He said that their action was commendable, noting the geographical and other realities of the terrain.
Kaieteur News understands that eyewitnesses to the murder tied up the suspect before handing him over to the police.
