South Africa’s tour of West Indies faces further disruption with the current violence in Kingston threatening the Jamaica leg of the trip which involves the final ODI, a warm-up match and the first Test at Sabina Park.
A state of emergency is in operation in parts of the capital after serious fighting broke out involving supporters of a local drug lord, Christopher Dudus Coke, whom Jamaica officials are aiming to extradite to the US.
The WICB said they were monitoring the situation and that a decision will be made during the week, but Cricinfo understands that it is highly unlikely the series will travel to Kingston as planned.
“The WICB has been in contact with all the major stakeholders and will issue a formal update in the coming days,” said a statement.
The tour has already required one change to the itinerary after the general election in Trinidad meant the Twenty20 internationals and opening two ODIs were shifted to the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua. The remaining Tests will be held in St Kitts and Barbados later in June.
Last year Sabina Park was the scene for a rare West Indies victory as they skittled England for 51 in the first Test.
