Engineering and Construction Inc. (ECI), the local agent for Perkins engines, has been recognised by Perkins Motors as a Level 3 distributor.
Being certified as a Level 3 distributor means that ECI, located at Friendship, East Bank Demerara can repair and give support for any model of Perkins engine sold in any part of the world.
Joaquim De Paula of Perkins Motores do Brasil Ltd., stated that ECI in Guyana gave the most assistance to the company.
“We are very impressed with the organisation and the support we received here,” he said.
He explained that the Level 3 is a certification that is given to the distributors and of all the South American countries “ECI got the certification because of the good work and performance in Guyana. This is very good for the country and Perkins.”
With more than 100 agents around the world, De Paula said it is not easy to score the points to achieve the Level 3. He explained that there are a lot of points a distributor looks for in an agent.
Perkins uses the same worldwide methods for all their agents. Perkins Consultant, Francisco Balestero, said that agents should have good product support anywhere in the world. They should have “inventory, trained technicians, inventory of engines in the territory…so we have a worldwide form qualification that all distributors should follow…its like franchise standards we expect all distributors to follow…we are introducing this in Guyana.”
ECI has been working on achieving this standard for three years and did so in 2008. The company was recertified in 2009 and has now achieved the Level 3 Certification this year.
The company expressed pride in receiving the certification, in the words of Cecil Bhagwandin, Personnel Manager, “We are customer driven, and because we are customer driven we work to achieve the highest.”
