Government funds (US$150,000) refurbishing of Paragon Ranges
Chairman of the Barbados Rifle Association (BRA) Organising Committee Richard Arthur speaking with Kaieteur Sport at the Paragon Ranges yesterday said the BRA is looking forward to a successful time in terms of hosting the 2010 Caribbean Fullbore Rifle Shooting Championships which starts today.
Arthur, a former Executive Member of the BRA stated that they have been planning for these championships ever since January of this year and they are very grateful to the Barbados Government for funding the refurbishing of the Ranges and building a brand new club house.
Earlier this year, the entire Paragon Ranges was burnt during the extended dry season but with the help of Government, they were able to fully refurbish the Ranges, installing new targets and flags.
Arthur thanked the Government, Ministry of Tourism, Chief of Staff and the Customs Department for the help they (BRA) have received in realizing a successful championship.
Asked whether Barbados will use home advantage to win, something they have not achieved in 29 years at this level, Arthur stated that they expect to do very well.
“The team has been preparing a long time now and I expect them to do very well and give a good account of themselves in the individual and team competitions.”
