Guyana is projecting 100,000 vehicles may be on the road by year-end.
According to the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA), sale of motor vehicle licences for this year so far has been tagged at 33,000, a tremendous increase as compared to previous years.
“The Licence Revenue Office is expecting to sell about 90,000 to 100,000 motor vehicle licences countrywide by the end of the year.”
This would mean that based on estimation that there are over 700,000 citizens, there would be at least one vehicle per family.
GRA added yesterday that motor vehicle licences can be purchased at other GRA offices in Georgetown besides the Licence Revenue Office.
Motor Vehicle Licences are currently being sold at the VAT Office, Albert and Charlotte Streets, Customs House building, Main Street, and GPO Building, Robb Street.
“The Licence Revenue Office has surpassed its projected sales target to date.”
Owners of minibuses and vans which are registered for the transporting of goods and assigned the Alpha Digit “G “ must present their vehicles for examination in support of their application. Vehicle owners are further reminded that there is a time period in which you must obtain your Motor Vehicle Licence, GRA stated.
“Penalties will be applied to vehicle owners who purchase their licence after the allotted time.” The deadline for obtaining a Motor Vehicle Licence is July 6. GRA urged that vehicle owners purchase their licence at the earliest opportunity and not wait for the last moment.
