…participant calls for edification of youth on Burnham, party achievements
The Peoples National Congress Reform yesterday successfully held its Annual Region Four Conference at the party’s headquarters at Congress Place Sophia.
One of the highlights of the day was the feature address by the party leader Robert Corbin, during which he challenged the membership to unite for the greater good of the party.
Corbin stressed that this would be the only way that the party could successfully contest the imminent General Elections.
The party leader stressed that the membership should stop focusing on personalities and deal with the issues at hand.
Corbin also sought to dispel what he called rumours that he had endorsed anyone for the position of Presidential Candidate for the party.
He reiterated that the post of Presidential Candidate for the 2011 Elections would be decided by the party and not him.
Meanwhile, as the floor was opened for comments, one individual was particularly critical of the fact that the MP’s were not reaching out to people at the grass roots level.
The individual said that it is not enough for the Regional Officials to be in place, but every now and again the elected MP’s must also reach out to the people in the communities.
There was also the suggestion that on the occasion of the remembrance of the late Forbes Burnham, there be and edification campaign targeting the youth.
The participant posited that there is a high level of ignorance among the youth as to the contributions of Burnham and the party as a whole in the past, adding that the current administration is being allowed to take credit.
The party is gearing to celebrate the 25th death anniversary of the late Executive President, who died on August, 6 1985.
