…distributes several hundred chicks, feed
The Alliance For Change (AFC) as part of its outreach activities for this month, kept its promise to the Village of Hararuni by delivering some 700 baby-chicks to the residents of the community in the Soesdyke/Linden Highway.
In delivering the chicks and feed, the party officials stressed that it will in a big way replenish the stocks in its livestock section.
The officials on the visit included party Chairman Khemraj Ramjattan, Member of Parliament David Patterson, Party General Secretary Sixtus Edwards and Denise Walcott.
“The AFC’s activities are not always hardcore political…Our ground involvement and work in rural communities sometimes involve doing things which will support economic projects like these…And though resources are hard to come by, we have managed to source funds from some friends to make this happen,” said Chairman Ramjattan.
Ramjattan also announced that the AFC’s next such project, would be the distribution of five heads of cattle to five underprivileged women in the Lethem area.
It was explained that the first calves that the cows give birth to will then be given to another five women.
“This process will hopefully go on like that.”
Patterson, who is said to be a regular visitor of the Lethem area and who is making the arrangements for the distribution later this month, said: “This kind of social work though seemingly insignificant helps in alleviating poverty while allowing us a presence on the ground to hear the peoples’ views and grievances…We also share our vision with them.”
AFC’s General Secretary, Edwards made the point, concerning such activities, that many want to fix the AFC’s agenda.
“They want us to protest and demonstrate…Well we will show how we care by doing exactly these activities at the present time.”
