The Christianburg Ground came alive last Sunday, when the Demerara zone of the Masters’ Cup and Females Softball cricket tournament continued with several exciting matches.
The day’s proceedings commenced with a thrilling encounter where Regal Masters XI defeated Linden Over-40 XI by 4 wickets. The former team won the toss and invited the latter to take first strike, restricting them to 88-6 in their allotted overs. Bing Charter, the only batsman to offer any resistance, clobbered 42 (6×4 2×4) in the face of an accurate bowling spell from Amarnauth Boodhoo (2-9 from 3 overs).
Regal Masters XI then came in and in very businesslike fashion erased the deficit (91-6) in only 6.5 overs. Lance Adams lashed a quick fire 24 off 8 balls despite incisive bowling from Anthony Bell who took 2-12 in his allotted overs. He received support from Clayton Prince (2-14 from 2 overs).
Meanwhile, Kitty All Stars and Ituni squared off in an exhibition match and the Georgetown based team carted off the honours by 13 runs. Excellent field placement by the Kitty All Stars captain restricted Lindeners to 61 – 7 off their 10 overs in reply to 74- 6 registered by Kitty All Stars.
The action continues this weekend when the Linden females face another Georgetown female team. There will also be another match featuring the reigning countrywide Over-40 male team at Christianburg tomorrow beginning at 10:00am sharp.
