Fruta Conquerors FC were provided with the necessary incentive to perform even better this year when Managing Director of the Guyana Beverage Company Robert Selman presented the club with over $1million in uniforms and other related gears yesterday, at the Company’s Head Office in Diamond.
Selman, who presented the uniforms and gears to club Captain Neville Stanton in the presence of Acting President Ivor Thompson, Coach Jevin Rodrigues, club executive Margaret Schultz, Customer Relations Representative of the Company Shameiza Yadram and teammates, said that over the past 11 years of the Company’s association with the club through its unmitigated sponsorship, the success of the club, which got its name from the beverage brand, has allowed the product to become the #1 selling juice in the local market.
According to Selman, it took hard and dedicated work from both parties over the years to take the Company to where it is today and they are extremely grateful for that.
The Director recognised that the club is not doing as well as it used to, but that he pointed out is no reason for them to walk away, instead what they’ve done is provide the necessary incentives that will encourage the players to work even harder to achieve the kind of success it is accustom to.
“We have pumped over $1million in this year’s sponsorship and I’m proud to announce that we will continue to do so next year as well, providing our image is not tarnished,” Selman mentioned.
He added that Fruta juices have become a household name in Guyana and the product’s rise in popularity among Guyanese, especially the children, is due to its quality and the outstanding performance of the team.
Selman thanked the executive for doing a wonderful job over the years to keep the teams, including the juniors among the best in the country.
Meanwhile, Acting President Thompson gave a brief outline about the club’s history which he revealed was formed in 1982 with about 20 members domiciled in the Festival City area with emphasis mainly on their development.
At present there are about 100 members that are engaged in the sport beginning from the Under-11 level, while the club is still ranked among the top in the country.
Club member Mustapha Haqq, who returned from Barbados for a brief stay, thanked the entity for the gift on behalf of the players.
