Scrabble players rated outside of the top ten will oppose each other in a tournament organized by past president of the Guyana Association of Scrabble Players (GASP) and current President of the Wordly Words Scrabble Club, Nicholas Grant starting at 10:00hrs Sunday morning.
The tournament is open to all players outside of the top ten rating and would be played at Grant’s home 76 Hadfield Street and Winter’s Place Stabroek.
Heated competition is expected from Yvonne Murray, Grant himself, Elton Chase, Ruby Cummings and Paul Adams among others
Mr. Grant, an ardent scrabble lover said that the tournament is geared to provide worthwhile competition for the lower rated seeds who have found it exceedingly difficult to win tournaments while playing among the top rated players.
He feels that tournaments of this nature will assist the younger players to raise their standards of play to a higher level. There would be lucrative prizes for the top three finishers as well as prizes for the highest single play, the most bingos and the best beginner. Interested persons may register at Grant’s home on the morning of the tournament.
