Persuad, Calvin hit 50’s; Semple & Balgobin snare 5 wkts each
Lima, Walton Hall and Gunners recorded victories as play in the Caricom Rice Mill Twenty20 cricket competition continued recently in North Essequibo with three matches.
At Anna Regina, Lima defeated Gunners by 7 wickets – Gunners batted first and made 107-8 in 20 overs. Greyson Paul led with 26 while Essequibo Under-19 player Christopher Blucher scored 20 as Maniram Hemchand and Rajiv Manichand took three wickets each.
Lima in response reached 108-3 in 15 overs. Manichand returned to hit an unbeaten 36 and Naresh Bahadur 33; Blucher picked up 2-24 for Gunners.
At Charity, Walton Hall overcame the host by 13 runs. Walton Hall took first strike and posted 149-8. Suresh Persaud top scored with 50 while Tamesh Ramesh contributed 31 as Leon Semple captured 5-26 and Royce Evans 3-16.
Charity in reply could only reach 136-7 in 20 overs. Calvan Calvin topped with 65 as Uvindra Balgobin bagged 5-21 and Nand Bahadur 2-17 for the winners.
In the second game at Charity, the home team went down to Gunners by 19 runs. Gunners batted first and scored a respectable 150-9 in 20 overs. Greyson Paul made 25 and Mark Tyrell supported with 20 as M. Gildarie took 2-25 for Charity who were bowled out for 131 in 18.4 overs.
Robert Semple was their chief run getter with 34 while Tyrell showed his all-round ability by taking 3-14, and Keron Sewnarine assisted with 2-14.
Meanwhile, the semi final is set for Sunday with Gunners taking on Walton Hall at Anna Regina and Lima hosting Young Achievers.
