The driver of this Toyota Carina AT 192 motorcar which ended up in a trench on the Cumberland Public Road last night must be counting his lucky stars to have escaped without injury. The car, which eyewitnesses say was travelling at a fast rate of speed on the East Canje public road at around 20:45 hrs, spun out of control before hitting a GPL lantern post which immediately started to spark. The ensuing impact blew the transformer and plunged the entire Canje into darkness. The car then ended up in the drain in front of the Cumberland Primary school. The Guyana Fire Service, GPL emergency crew and the police impact and traffic patrols immediately rushed personnel to the scene. The driver allegedly told investigators that he suffers from bouts of epilepsy (fits) and lost consciousness before crashing.
