– All systems in place for exciting day of racing
Most of the top grass track riders in the country have confirmed participation in this weekend’s GT&T / Friends Inc. Charity Meeting which is scheduled to be staged at the Ogle Community Centre, starting from 12:00 hrs.
According to co-ordinator Andre Joseph, riders such as Vassy Barry, Carlos Rodrigues, Andy Rajkaran, Alvin Balgobin, Dave Younge, Junior Da Silva and Andrew Wong are among those expected to compete in the event which is in aid of charity.
Speaking with Andy Rajkaran yesterday via telephone, he said that he could not confirm who will be participating, but come Sunday he will be taking to the starting line.
“I am unable to say who and who will be participating, but what I can tell you is that as long as there is a full compliment of professional riders I will be there to compete,” Rajkaran told this newspaper.
He added that in the absence of nemesis Stephen Vieira, who left the country to participate in Jamaica, he is confident of doing well and upstaging anyone who takes to the line.
According to the Organisers, they’ve decided to raise the first prize in the professional (Expert) category from the previous $25,000 to $33,000, while prizes have also been increased for the 125cc/250cc novices and 50cc Chappys/ Minis in an effort to encourage maximum participation for the event which will see proceeds distributed to needy charities such as Uncle Eddie’s Home and orphanages as well.
