Twenty-two-year old Berbice Technical Institute student, Rondel Simmons, who was involved in an accident Saturday morning has shown some signs of improvement. Simmons is still a patient in the Intensive Care Unit of the Georgetown Public Hospital. One relative yesterday told Kaieteur News that Simmons is awake and is communicating with relatives.
The relative said that Simmons cannot talk since his jaw is fractured.
The young man was heading home when he rode his motorcycle into the path of a stray cow. He was rushed to the New Amsterdam Hospital, but was later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital because of the severity of his injuries.
Meanwhile the hospital in a press statement said that the porter who had refused to give assistance to Simmons has been sent on 14 days’ leave pending investigations.
The press statement said that investigations revealed that the porter was errant and negligent of his duties.
The hospital expressed its apologies to the patient and relatives for their regrettable experience and encourages the public to bring any occurrence of this nature to the administration’s attention.
