Defeat Tamarind Root XI in Final
In the Lower Corentyne zone Final of the Carib Beer sponsored National Softball cricket tournament organised by the Guyana Softball League and the Ministry of Culture and Sport played at the Fyrish Ground, Fyrish Superstars XI defeated Tamarind Root XI by a massive one hundred and sixty runs in one sided affair to win lower Corentyne Zone final.
Fyrish Superstars won the toss and elected to bat in overcast conditions and rattled up 226-9 in 15 overs with the opening pair of Javed Mohamed and Ramnarine Chattergoon blasting 110 in the first 7 overs, with the right handed Javed Mohamed scoring 70 of those runs which included some seven sixes and three fours and Chattergoon, who is also right handed, scoring 30 with 3 sixes and one four.
The introduction of first change bowler Akash Persaud saw Chattergoon going for his thirty and three more wickets falling to Persaud in his three overs but he was a bit expensive going for over 10 runs per over with Mohamed moving along merrily to his hundred scored off 42 balls.
Having scored 103 and trying to hoist Persaud out of the ground for a second six in the over Mohamed was taken at long off. However, the rest of the batting rallied them to a mammoth 226-9 at the expiration of their allotted 15 overs. Persaud was the best bowler for the Tamarind Root XI with 4-30 from 3 overs.
The score of 226 was an imposing one and the Tamarind Root XI batters started badly with right handed opening bowler Mohan Shivdyal making things difficult for them by picking up three wickets in his first two overs and also being measly in these overs going for just 6 runs. Tamarind Root XI were eventually bundled out for 66 in 7.3 overs with Shivdyal ending with 5-15 from 3 overs and supported by skipper Krishna Emoi with 2-13 from his three overs. They will now proceed to the Berbice finals to be held at a date to be announced.
