Rabeja Khan, 41, was yesterday granted $50,000 bail by Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson, after she pleaded not guilty to one count of embezzlement.
The allegation was that the woman fraudulently converted $59,000 from the United General Store, property of Hugh Jackson, on May 16. Police Prosecutor Stephen Telford did not oppose bail. According to the prosecutor the woman would normally collect orders for goods. He said that on the day in question she received the order and subsequently collected the money.
However instead of handing it over, she fraudulently converted the money to her own use.
Khan asked the magistrate for a small bail, noting that she was placed on $5,000 station bail.
Khan was placed on $50,000 bail by the magistrate and is expected to make another court on June 13.
