– Claims man was already dead
An unidentified man was found dead in Second Street Diamond Housing Scheme last evening after a car slammed into him and crashed into a nearby trench.
The man was pronounced dead on arrival at the Diamond Diagnostic Centre, however, no relatives were present at the hospital up to press time.
The driver of the vehicle turned up at the hospital for medical attention. He was treated and later taken into police custody.
According to a source, “the man believed to be in his fifties was walking on the road when he was knocked down and another car swerved from him and crashed into a trench.”
The detained driver had related that the man was lying on the road and appeared to be dead and he could not have avoided running over him.
According to police sources the man is an unlicensed driver
This is the third fatality on the main road leading into Diamond Housing Scheme, one of these was the hit-and-run death of Ramona Harris who was struck down on Good Friday night
