Following a major hiccup by the ground management of the Georgetown Football Club which caused the quarter-finals not to be contested as scheduled, the final two quarter-final matches will be contested on Friday evening at the GFC, while the semi-finals are set for the same venue on Sunday.
Play will kick off from 6:00pm on both days and fans are assured that the games will be played as scheduled. Fans are anticipating the keen rivalry promised when the teams collide in Friday’s and Sunday’s action.
Santos are down to collide with Seawall Football Club in the opening quarter-final encounter on Friday from 6:00pm, while BK International Western Tigers come up against Fruta Conquerors in the nightcap at 8:00pm.
The winners of the two encounters are guaranteed places in the second semi-final fixed for Sunday. The opening semi-final pits Riddim Squad against the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), while the winners of Friday’s encounters will meet in the second game.
The grand finale is set for Sunday May 30, which will be preceded by the third place playoff of the losing semi-finalists.
The quarter-finals are expected to be a tooth and nail affair between evenly matched sides, both of whom will fancy their chances of advancing into the money round.
In the first instance Santos have Shemroy Arthur, Williams Europe, Trevor Lewis, Kasi John, O’Neal Heywood and Glenorvan Edmonds leading their challenge for a semi-final berth. Seawall will feed off Toine Lopes, Delon Josiah, Garlon Lewis, Cleveland Walcott, Marvin Griffith and Michael Castello to thwart the plans of Santos and ensure their passage to the semis.
The second game promises to be a real scrap. Western Tigers are no strangers to a real battle and Conquerors can expect the BK boys are ready for a showdown, one they intend to win.
Fruta Conquerors are no pushovers either and will be painted for war. The side with a blend of old and new faces will look to stroll into the money round.
Neville Stanton, Paul Bobb, Mustapha Hack, Jomo Hinds, Dellon Williams, Joslyn Harry, Sheldon Shepherd and Eon Alleyne will spearhead Fruta’s charge.
The Tigers have Sherman David, Gavin Wilson, Maxwell Pellew, Dwayne Ali, Nedd Fraser, Derrick Carter and Michael Henry at the forefront of their challenge.
Fans are in for a treat and should not be disappointed with these two match ups as the four teams are expected to pull out all the stops ahead of the money round.
