Montel Trotman & Randolph Singh attain Black belt
A total of 66 Karatekas were successful at JKA/WF Guyana grading examinations held last Saturday, May 15 at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
The highlight of this grading was the promotion of Montel Trotman and Randolph Singh who successfully attained Shodan (1st Dan) Blackelt from 1st Kyu brown.
The results are as follows: Two students were promoted from 3rd to 2nd Kyu Brown belt. Eight students were promoted to the rank of 3Kyu Brown belt from 4th Kyu Purple.
The Purple belt ranking had five (5) students with promotions from 5th to 4th Kyu, whilst 15 students were promoted from Green to the rank of Purple belt.
Promotions continued as 7 students earned promotions from Orange belt to the rank of Green belt. Six (6) students in the Yellow belt rank were promoted to Orange belt, 21 students (the largest group) moved up into the rank of Yellow belt from the beginning stage of White belt.
Examinations were conducted by JKA’s 6th Dan, License “A” Class Judge and Instructor, Japanese – Sensei Yasuaki Nagatomo. Chief Instructor of JKA/WF Guyana, Sensei Christopher Chavez said he was pleased to have hosted Sensei Nagatomo, an International Examiner.
A special training clinic was conducted after grading by Sensei Nagatomo for all members of the JKA/WF Guyana. Students, parents and spectators were impressed at the knowledge and skills displayed by the very Charismatic Nagatomo. Sensei Nagatomo focused on the technical development of local karatekas to bring them on par with international standards.
Complimenting this event was the inclusion of the first batch of students from the affiliated Port Mourant Dojo in Berbice. The karatekas from Berbice did extremely well at the examination and Sensei Nagatomo was impressed by their performance.
Sensei Chavez commended and congratulated the students on their successes as they have been training regularly. Special thanks were also extended to the National Sports Commission, members and supporters of the JKA/WF Guyana for making the event possible.
