Police are questioning a taxi driver who they believe could provide them with information about bandits who robbed an Eccles, East Bank Demerara woman in broad daylight yesterday.
Kaieteur News understands that the taxi driver was detained shortly after he dropped off the bandits in the city.
The victim of the robbery declined to give any information about the incident but this newspaper learnt that the robbery occurred shortly before midday yesterday in the New Eccles Housing Scheme.
According to reports, the victim, an elderly woman, was at home when the bandits invaded her house. They proceeded to tie her up before ransacking her house and making off with cash and other valuables.
The bandits reportedly walked from the scene and contracted a taxi from the area to take them to the city.
The woman was rescued after an alarm was raised and police responded promptly.
After receiving information the police tracked down the taxi driver.
Investigations are continuing.
