A man who allegedly attacked two brothers with a knife was yesterday denied bail when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
It was alleged that Clavin Johnson, on April 26, stabbed Shawn Atkins in the region of the heart and slashed Leon Atkins to the neck with a knife. The court was told that Shawn and Leon are brothers.
It is alleged that on the day in question, the brothers and Johnson had an argument over passengers when he pulled out a knife and inflicted the injuries.
Police Prosecutor Inspector Stephen Telford objected to bail because of the seriousness of the offence and the fear that Johnson might be a flight risk.
Johnson was remanded and is expected to make another court appearance on June 9.
Also appearing before the same magistrate was Roger Green who allegedly indecently assaulted a woman.
The allegation was that on May 11 at Kwakwani Park, Upper Berbice River, he accosted a female, tore down her blouse and fondled her breasts.
The man, according to the prosecutor tried desperately, to unbutton the woman’s pants, but was struck in the head with an umbrella for his efforts.
The woman was able to escape and she reported the matter and Green was arrested.
Green refuted all of the woman’s claims; he told the magistrate that he was not present when the incident allegedly took place.
He said that he had left the area at 16:00 hours. on the day in question and was away for some time.
Prosecutor Telford objected to bail and said that there was the possibility that Green might tamper with the witness. He was the remanded and the matter was transferred to Kwakwani for May 21.
