Quads champion Oliver Younge of Bartica poses with his trophy which was presented by Organiser Dr. Nicholas McLean last year.
With the anticipated increase in prize monies, the GT&T and Friends Inc. 3rd Annual Charity Grass Track Race Meet which is listed to be staged this Sunday, at the Ogle Community Centre is expected to attract the crème de la creme in the sport.
According to the Organisers, they’ve decided to raise the first prize in the professional (Expert) category from the previous $25,000 to $33,000, while prizes have also been increased for the 125cc/250cc novices and 50cc Chappys/ Minis in an effort to encourage maximum participation for the event which will see proceeds distributed to needy charities such as Uncle Eddie’s Home and orphanages as well.
There will also be novelty prizes, trophies and Castrol products up for grabs in the nine races carded for the day with the first scheduled to start at 12:00 hrs.
Pre-registration for riders commenced yesterday from 09:00 hrs and contact could be made with Andre Joseph, who is the Race Referee on Tele# 649 1290.
Riders will be assigned positions on the starting grid in their opening race in the order that they register.
Position 1/Row 1 in the first race in each category, or the equivalent of the ‘pole’ position, will therefore be assigned to the first rider to pay the $500 fee and register.
Patrons are being asked to come out and support this worthy cause with general admission set at $1,000.
Friends Inc has welcomed GT&T as the title sponsor again and extends thanks to other sponsors for their response so far.
A special GT&T gate prize will be given to a lucky patron.
Meanwhile it was reported that a challenging race course with 6 turns was approved at a tech training session for all officials at Water Chris Hotel on May 11 using GMRSC rules and adapted USA AMA and WERA rules.
Friends Inc. has decided not to use an oval race track and instead have chosen a serpentine track with 6 turns to maximize close competition, giving back-runners a fair chance to pass frontrunners, while they are braking and turning on the race course.
In 2008 and 2009, they introduced Quad racing and jumps to Georgetown fans, but this year will feature a heavy turnout of the 50cc chappys/minis category. An international Meet is being planned for 2011 to feature riders from the Caribbean, Guianas and Brazil.
A special grounds committee has been set up to manage landscaping and drainage at Ogle so that the ground and spectator stands are well prepared and aesthetically branded by GT&T on race day.
