– says Super Biker, Maurice Menezes
Super Bike racer, Maurice Menezes, who will team up with Stephen Vieira for the second stage of the Caribbean Championship Series in Jamaica, said that he is going to perform because success in racing depends a lot on performance.
Menezes was speaking briefly to Kaieteur Sport yesterday at the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club before Team Guyana departs for Jamaica next Wednesday where they will aim to secure the overall lead in the series.
“In racing, everything is performance. I am going to Jamaica to perform. I have Stock Suspension on my bike so I really don’t know how that will perform because it is not the usual racing suspension,” Menezes explained.
He will be riding a similar bike to Vieira’s, a Suzuki GSXR 600 cc 2008 model. Menezes and Vieira have more than racing similar bikes in common though; he and Vieira, who gave himself a 50/50 chance at the race meeting, will be riding on the circuit in Jamaica for the very first time and as such, they do not know what to expect.
Menezes said that apart from the concern with his suspension, he has to deal with a still healing collarbone injury that he sustained during a crash at the first stage of the race meeting at the South Dakota Circuit in Guyana last November.
“I was leading in that race when I crash and I don’t know the circuit their so that is the only thing that I will give them against us, the psychological advantage because most of our opposition has raced in Jamaica before,” Menezes said.
He identified Stephon Chin and Kevin Graham as his main opposition and said that he has been handling his bike well. Menezes related that there is also a minor concern about the time his machine will arrive in Jamaica for the meet.
The top local racer said that he wants ample time to practice but based on the arrival of his bike in Jamaica on next Friday, he will have little time to rev-up the circuit and get a bit acquainted on what Vieira called a “dangerous circuit”.
However, Menezes gave all assurance that he is confident of exceptional performances and thanked Rajkarran Auto Body, TCL Guyana Inc. and Cassia H20 To Go Water Company for supporting him for the tour to Jamaica.
