Yesterday, a robbery attempted by two men was thwarted after they proved to be no match for their victim.
Reports are that just around 16:10 hours yesterday, two gunmen attempted to rob the office of Dr. Robindra Shiwnandan, located on Thomas Street, Cummingsburg.
A source close to the doctor told this newspaper that two men posing as patients first entered the building. According to the source, the men even registered with the receptionist to see the doctor and waited their turn.
This newspaper was told that one of the men, when it was his turn to see the doctor, registered his complaint as severe chest pains.
The doctor, this newspaper was told, then informed the man that he would need to have a chest x-ray done.
Reports are that while in the x-ray room one of the men whipped out a gun and ordered the doctor to hand over his cash and valuables.
However, the doctor decided to put up a fight with the gunman. Some time during the scuffle a gunshot rang out, setting the alarm off. This then caused the gunman and his associate to panic, forcing them to flee the building. The two men then boarded a white car which was parked in front the doctor’s office.
During the attempted robbery, the doctor, however, was gun butted several times to his head and sustained at least three lacerations.
Dr. Shiwnandan was immediately taken to a private medical institution for medical attention. The matter has been reported to the police and investigations are ongoing.
