Thirty-five year-old Naresh Ramjohn called ‘Naresh Mahase’ or ‘Saddam’, of 54 Stanleytown, was yesterday remanded to prison by magistrate Omeyana Hamilton when he appeared before her at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court, charged with the murder of 28-year-old Anthony Samaroo, called ‘Scar Them’ of Levi Dam, Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam.
The offence is alleged to have been committed July 2, 2008, at Angoy’s Avenue.
Ramjohn’s two brothers, Joseph ‘Joe Boy’ Ramjohn and Khemraj Ramjohn called ‘Babo’ of the same address, have also been charged and warrants have been issued for their arrest.
The state’s case as presented by Prosecutor Corporal Roberto Figueira is that on the day in question, Samaroo and the three accused had an altercation when Samaroo was fatally stabbed.
Kaieteur News understands that Samaroo’s 15-year-old brother was involved in an argument with the three Ramjohn siblings at Levi Dam. It was alleged that the trio assaulted him.
The lad went home and told his older brother (Anthony Samaroo) who went and confronted the Ramjohns.
The confrontation developed into a physical altercation during which time Anthony Samaroo was allegedly stabbed about his body with a pitch-fork. He was admitted to the New Amsterdam Hospital where he subsequently died while receiving treatment.
The brothers were on the run and it is alleged that they were out of the country. Naresh Ramjohn was recently picked up on a narcotics charge
