… Burnt body in car trunk
Police were yesterday questioning two people in connection with the murder of taxi driver Roy Mitchell Persaud, whose charred remains were found in his car trunk on Sunday.
Kaieteur News understands that one of the detained men is a New Amsterdam resident who is one of the last people to have travelled in Persaud’s car.
A source said that the man has been unable to give a credible account of his movements on the night that Persaud went missing.
Detective was still checking his alibi at press time.
Persaud, called ‘Otis’ and ‘Fine Man’, solicited passengers in the vicinity of Main and Pitt Streets, New Amsterdam.
Persons at the car park told Kaieteur News that he had had picked up some passengers in this area at around 23:00 hrs on Friday.
He reportedly indicated that he was heading for Canje.
Persaud, of Corsat Dam Agony’s Avenue was discovered in his car trunk in Palmarya, East Canje Berbice early Sunday morning by persons who were scouring the area for scrap iron. Relatives reported him missing on Saturday afternoon after he failed to return home.
According to reports, he had visited his mother’s home at Smythfield around 12:00hrs on Friday.
He was reportedly last seen alive on Friday at around 15:00 hrs. He was wearing blue jeans and a white jersey.
