Richard Ishmael Secondary School secured a landslide victory last week Tuesday over the Institute of Business Education when the two schools clashed in the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI) sponsored Inter-Secondary School impromptu competition. The match-up represented the final match of the first round of the competition which started last month.
The triumphant school deliberated on topics including: You can make a child feel special; Respecting each other is important; Seeing is believing, and scored a total of 550 points against the Institute of Business Education which secured 401 points.
The Institute addressed the topics: True wisdom comes from experiences; Prayers in schools and Peer Pressure.
The judges in this round of the competition were Mr Sheik Sadiq, Ms Maureen Williams and Mr Kenneth Bentick.
Meanwhile, the second round of the competition was kicked into motion last Thursday with St Stanislaus College coming up against President’s College and Bishops’ High against St Joseph High. And it was President’s College that emerged victorious over St Stanislaus College scoring 696 points over Saints’ 691.
The topics selected by President’s College were: A period I would have loved to live through is…On the path of life luck is more important than competence; How to prevent truancy? St Stanislaus College selected the following topics: To get respect…, Playing with fire and What human quality do we need more and why?
St Joseph High won in the second match-up of the day against Bishops’ High, scoring 682 points compared to the 677 points scored by Bishops’. St Joseph High eloquently dealt with the issues: Real wealth is never measured in money or possessions; Learning could be made more attractive by…; Public display of affection. Bishops’ High on the other hand addressed: Peace is possible; Does money make the world go round? Does sex education belong in the school or home?
The judges for the matchers were Mrs Lurine Meertins, Ms Bonita Hunter and Ms Magda Pollard.
The competition is set to continue on Tuesday with School of the Nations coming up against Mae’s Secondary and St John’s College taking on Richard Ishmael Secondary to complete the second round.
All of the matches are being sponsored exclusively by the GBTI Regent Street Branch.
