Defending champions Alpha United maintained their unbeaten status following a 3-0 victory over Bakewell Topp XX in the lone encounter of the scheduled doubleheader when play in the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Super League, Win in CONCACAF with CONCACAF and funded by FIFA continued on Friday last at the GFC ground, Bourda.
The other match between Sunburst Camptown and Seawall FC was not played due to adverse condition existing at the venue, which could not have facilitated both matches.
Leon Grumble, Anthony Abrams and Dwain Jacobs in the 17th, 80th and 87th minutes accounted for Alpha’s 3 winning goals enroute to their 7th consecutive victory. The winners had led 1-0 at the interval, while the 2 remaining goals came within 7 minutes, the third from the penalty spot. Both teams were reduced to 10 men, Alpha’s Leon Grumble was given his marching orders in the 72nd minute.
Topp XX’s Ruel Williams was ejected in the 87th minute after receiving his second yellow card.
Meanwhile play in the competition will continue today with 5 matches at 4 venues. At the GFC ground, Bourda, in the feature match of the doubleheader the 7th place Sunburst Camptown with 6 points to their credit play unbeaten points leaders Alpha United with 21 points, from 20:00hrs.
Action Kicks off at 18:00hrs with the opening encounter bringing together the 2nd place GDF, who have 11 points against Victoria Kings on 10 points and currently 4th.
Over on the Blairmont Community Centre ground at 16:00hrs, the 5th place Rosignol United also with 10 points and an inferior goal difference, entertain Milerock whose 9 points place them in the 6th position.
Kickoff time is also 16:00hrs at the Enmore Community Centre ground, which pits Buxton United currently in the 3rd position with 11 points (inferior goal difference) hosting Bakewell Topp XX with 4 points and currently in the 8th position (superior goal difference).
At the Uitvlugt Community Centre ground from 14:00hrs, Seawall FC with 3 points and occupying the cellar entertain Liquid Gold, who are in the penultimate spot with 4 points.
With all 10 teams involved in today’s action football fans and supporters can expect classical and entertaining displays at the various venues.
