The Guyana Police Association has expressed concern over alleged wrongdoing involving a few members of the Police Force, and which has been publicised in the print and electronic media.
According to the association, these incidents which involve theft and assault, among other public wrongdoing by a few recalcitrant members of the force, are having a negative impact on the image of the organisation against the backdrop of major successes by the majority of ranks.
The Executive of the Police Association has informed that in conjunction with the Commissioner of Police and his Management Team, the Association will not condone the actions of members of the Force who break the law they are sworn to uphold and who are engaged in any alleged Human Rights violations or excessive use of force.
Ranks are reminded of the adherence to written policies, standards and protocols outlined in the Force Standing Orders and Force Orders which are issued weekly by the Commissioner, and also at Instruction Classes held with ranks by Officers and Subordinate Officers within divisions and branches of the Force.
The Guyana Police Association said it will continue to consistently sensitise members concerning their role and professional responsibility in the performance of their duties and not to be engaged in conduct that is inimical to the public good and which will tarnish the image of the Guyana Police Force.
Recently there have been several reports of police misconduct, ranging from alleged excessive use of force to the theft of persons’ personal property.
