63-year-old Louis Deane also recognised
Seven-time Mr. Guyana Lindie Sharpe who hails from the Bauxite Mining Town of Linden was honoured by Hugh Arlington Ross for his immense contributions to the sport of Bodybuilding in Guyana.
Hailed as a true son of the soil, the 53-year-old Lindener who, as many said on Sunday night last, is blessed with a body depicting a 25 – 30 year old competitor, received his award from Ross, who in presenting the accolade to Sharpe said that he {Sharpe} was his idol back in the days when his name alone was a crowd puller.
“I recall buying a ticket as a youngster to go and see Sharpie as he was fondly called, compete at bodybuilding shows and I’ve been impressed with his professionalism and dedication to the sport over the years.”
Sharpe, who placed 3rd in the Light Middleweight (166lbs – 176lbs) Category at the 2nd Edition of the Hugh Ross Classic Bodybuilding and Fitness Show on Sunday last at the National Cultural Centre, won the Guyana Amateur Bodybuilding & Fitness Federation Senior Mr. Guyana competition seven (7) times and was also a force to reckon with at the Central American & Caribbean Level where he won twice.
Sharpe, who trains and represents the Universal Barbel Club of Linden is a true ambassador of the sport and a positive role model to all having been able, with the requisite discipline, dedication and hard work over the years despite challenging times, been able to keep himself in shape and even at the age of 53, can compete with younger bodies on stage.
Surely the younger athletes can learn a whole lot from this elder but competitive statesman.
Meanwhile, another veteran, 63-year-old Louis Deane, who placed 4th in the Heavyweight (177lbs & over) Category was complimented by Ross for taking part in the event.
