Alpha United rebounded from the thrashing they received from Riddim Squad in the Mayor’s Cup competition to hammer the Guyana Defence Force 4-1 when competition in the Guyana Football Federation National Super League sponsored by FIFA under their Win in CONCACAF with CONCACAF Project continued this past weekend with 3 games.
Playing at the GFC Ground, ‘The Hammer’ maintained the lead and their unbeaten record with goals from Jamaican forward Oneka Ford in the 20th minute his fellow Jamaican Troylan Williams in the 44th along with locals Anthony ‘Awo’ Abrams in the 61st and Dwayne Jacobs, 8 minutes to full time. Hubert Pedro converted the Army’s consolation goal in the 62nd minute.
Up at the Blairmont Ground on the West Coast of Berbice, the home team Rosignol United softened the challenge of Bartica’s Liquid Gold by inflicting a 3-0 thrashing on the visitors.
Netting the hat-trick of goals for the winners was Delroy Fraser who blasted the nets in the 5th, 14th and 47th minute.
Over at the Wales Community Centre Ground, East Demerara’s Buxton United primarily comprising Under-20 players trounced home team Sewall FC 2- nil compliments of goals from their leading forward Clive Andries in the 29th minute but the scoring was opened 5 minutes earlier through a Jamaul Phyll strike.
First round action will continue tomorrow with 3 more matches. At the Enmore Community Centre Ground, from 14:00hrs Sunburst Camptown match skills with Bakewell Topp XX in a game which both teams have to win if they are to end the first-round within the top eight and at 16:00hrs Victoria Kings will oppose another Bauxite Mining Town team in Milerock.
In the first game at 12:00hrs, the respective Under-17 teams from West Demerara and Upper Demerara will face off in eth GFF Inter Association tournament. This will be a replayed fixture, when the teams met one week ago, Upper Demerara were leading 1-0 when the goal post was broken in the 8th minute.
Meanwhile, on Friday at the GFC Ground, more Super League games will be contested. Sunburst Camptown play Seawall FC from 18:00hrs with the feature game bringing together Alpha United and Bakewell Topp XX.
Meanwhile, in the GFF Women Inter Association competition, host team Lethem were gifted an equal share of the points when they got their equaliser in the 65th minute through a defence error.
East Demerara had taken the lead in the 30th minute through Sasha Greaves. The game was played on Saturday last.
