Come Saturday, it will be one year since 51-year-old Rupert Randolph Gill was stabbed in his neck, in clear daylight. However police are yet to locate his attacker one year later.
The man who lived at Parfait Harmonie, was fatally stabbed in the neck after he intervened in a matter “concerning the burning of DVDs”, police had stated.
On the day in question Gill was at a shop not far from his home when he intervened in the matter between the shop owner and another man. It was during his verbal intervention he was stabbed in the neck by the DVD vendor.
He was rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Hours after the incident police conducted a search at Yarrow Dam, Georgetown, but to no avail. The man’s reputed wife was detained and questioned but no one ever located the man who has been identified as Rickey Gonsalves.
Yesterday Gill’s relatives visited this newspaper and aired their concern over the sloppiness of the investigation.
One relative said that if the police put their heads together they could have apprehended the suspect a long time ago.
They believe that the police are not putting enough effort to locate the suspect.
One relative said that she last saw the suspect in Robb Street, casually walking. Gill’s relatives said based on their little investigation they were able to find out that the suspect is now residing somewhere in Berbice.
This newspaper was told that some time late last year the relatives were called to the Mahaicony Police Station for an identification parade but the person who was detained was not the suspect.
Relative said having to deal with the death of a loved one is no easy task; more so knowing that you may never get justice is even harder.
As such the relatives are calling on the relevant authorities to step up their investigation in an effort to locate the suspect so that he can be brought to justice.
