The Guyana Football Federation is leaving no stones unturned as they seek to whip the National female team (Lady Jags) into top shape ahead of Second Round action in the Caribbean Football Union Women’s Gold Cup Qualifying competition in the Twin Island Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, next month.
The Lady Jags will be involved in a one-week camp in Canada from May 2-8 before travelling to Trinidad on May 9 ahead of the Second Round games featuring hosts Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados and St. Lucia. Three (3) local based players in Collette Hope, Ronette Cort and Akella Castello have been included in the 18-member squad for Canada and subsequently, Trinidad. Assistant Coach Wayne ‘Wiggy’ Dover will also travel to Canada.
During the Canada camp, Technical Director of the GFF Women’s Programme Mark Rodrigues is expected to do a Business Presentation as the GFF seeks to attract financial support for the Women’s programme. GFF boss Colin Klass is also expected to attend the presentation.
Guyana won group one of the qualifying competition defeating both Suriname and St. Vincent & the Grenadines in March of this year at the GCC Ground Bourda.
The full squad reads: Alison Heydorn, Alyssa Budhoo, Catherine Kobelka, Ashlee Savona, Ashlee Rodrigues, Tenyka Francique, Briana DeSouza, Brittany Persaud, Daria Owen, Donna Carvalhal, Jordanna Phillips, Justine Rodrigues, Kayla DeSouza, Miriam El-Masri, Collette Hope, Ronette Cort, Akella Castello. Management: Mark Rodrigues, Chris Brown, Ali Tabrizi, Wayne Dover, Vanessa Dickenson, Michelle Latimer and Colin Baker.
Guyana’s first game in the second-round will see the Lady Jags taking on their counterparts from the Land of the Flying Fish, Barbados on May 10 at the Marvin Lee Stadium with T&T facing St. Lucia in the feature.
