Recently the Central Police Station in New Amsterdam, Operational Police Youth Club launched their female cricket team at their Recreational Centre, situated in the station’s Compound with a grand fun day.
The Police cricket team is made up of a combination of female police officers, Neighborhood police, Special Constables, Rural Constables and some members of the Community Police groups and also members of the Police Operational Youth Clubs in the area.
The two teams pose for a photo opportunity as Police team Captain Olive Tucker (right) presents the winning trophy to a representative of the Orphanage.
A number of activities were held including indoor and outdoor games. Highlighting the day was a feature 10/10 cricket match between the police combination and a female team drawn from the New Amsterdam Anjuman Orphanage female members, which are made up of the female orphan children staying at the centre.
The match was won by the girls from the orphanage who defeated their law enforcement counterparts. Scores were: Police 49 all out in 9 overs; the Orphans in reply 50-7 in 6 overs.
The days activity was coordinated by Sergeant Jairam Ramlakhan, Station Sergeant of the Central Police Station and coordinator of the out reach activities. Also attending the occasion were senior officers; Deputy Superintendent Kevin Adonis and Assistant Superintendent Leroy Albert.
The participants were feted after the activity, while the winning team also received a trophy.
