Four teams to battle for top honours at Providence
Four teams will battle for supremacy in the DJ Stress 20-20 Cricket Festival slated for the Guyana National Stadium at Providence on July 4.
The final will be played under lights and according to the Organisers, each of the four teams in the competition have acquired a sponsor for the one-day event which has been sanctioned by the Guyana Cricket Board.
In addition to the four teams, a Guyana Media X1 will also participate in an exhibition match and the Media team has also acquired a sponsor.
Top West Demerara first division team New Line Cavaliers will be sponsored by Hotel Tower, the Georgetown Pitbulls will play under the Gizmos & Gadgets banner, the Universal DVD Club will sponsor the Berbice Titans while the fourth side is the Digicom Superstars which will comprise players from McGill Cricket Team & other West Demerara Cricket Clubs.
The Media team, which will play a series of practice matches before coming up with their 14-man squad for the July 4 Festival, has already attracted two sponsors and a decision will be reached shortly on which sponsor’s uniform will be worn at the Stadium.
Most of the country’s top cricketers are expected to be on show while a number of beyond the boundary activities are being planned to further entertain the spectators.
The Organisers will release the prize money being played for, the entrance fee and other relevant information in the coming weeks. (Sean Devers)
