… Essequibo Mela pushed back by a week
The Indian Arrival Committee (IAC) has rescheduled its Georgetown Mela to next Sunday after rain forced a postponement of the event last Sunday. The cultural programme remains the same except for the addition of two leading singers from Trinidad and Tobago, the IAC stated in a press release.
Local dance troupes including Sitare, Divas, Abhinaya Natya, Shelita, the Indian Cultural Centre, Nrityageet, dancer Tameka, actor Michael Ignatius, leading singers including the 2010 Chutney Queen Fiona Singh and members of the Shakti Strings Orchestra are some of the artistes who will perform.
As a result of this change, the IAC announced that its Essequibo Mela, which was scheduled for next Sunday, at the Anna Regina Community Centre Ground, will now be held on Sunday May 9, 2010. The Berbice Mela, scheduled for May 5, 2010, is unchanged.
While the inclement weather last Sunday was beyond the control of the IAC, the organisation said it is cognisant of the inconvenience caused to artistes who were scheduled to perform, stall owners, and others who contributed to the event.
