– Working on ways to promote the sport
FIFA Senior Manager of Member Associations Services Urs Zanitti and Marketing Consultant of Member Associations Professionalism Programme Chris Collie who’re here on a three-day visit to work with the Guyana Football Federation on ways to promote the sport, held an interactive session with the media, Marketing Representative Rayad Boyce and Public Relations Consultant Marjorie Chester yesterday, at the GFF Head Office.
Zanitti and Collie speaking with the media said that they were here to work with the GFF to better understand where the entity would like to take the sport and to offer recommendations on how they could meet the outlined targets.
Collie told the media that they intend to work closely with the GFF over the next 18-24 months during which time the aim is to hold meetings with as many stakeholders as possible and to get the kind of feedback on the workings of the entity so that they could come up with solutions to improve the sport, but more specifically the marketing aspect.
“We are hoping to get the feedback on the GFF and what the people would like to see relative to football and more specifically marketing,” Collie informed.
Zanitti for his part spoke of some of the requirements of FIFA, adding that it is their concern to address all issues related to the development of the game.
GFF 2nd Vice-President Franklin Wilson speaking in the capacity of a media representative said that the product (game) needed to be developed even more.
“The GFF needs to be more proactive with its Public Relations. You must not wait until there are competitions to start promoting the game, but rather because there is an image to be repaired which has been damaged over the years for one reason or another, the PR must be more consistent,” Wilson advised.
He called on the entity to be much more open with other stakeholders and the public at large.
Wilson also urged the GFF to involve persons with the relevant expertise to help promote the sport and more directly its activities, adding that it is one of the areas that seem to be lacking within the Body.
“They need to find a way to get more support from the Government and Corporate entities whose roles are to help with the development and promotion of the sport.”
He also recommended that there be some allowance in the GFF’s budget that will provide support for the media to travel with teams.
This he stated could provide huge benefits for the sport through the dissemination of news related to teams performances etc.
Most of the other participants made recommendations and endorsed most of what was said earlier.
